Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound, by reacting a cyclic terpene alcohol having an exo double bond with a lower saturated fatty acid under heating in the presence of a catalyst and a lower saturated fatty acid anhydride while keeping the reaction solution anhydrous so that esterification and isomerization are carried out simultaneously.
CONSTITUTION: In preparing a cyclic terpene ester by reacing a cyclic terpene alcohol (e.g., pinocarveol, etc.) having an exo double bond with a lower saturated fatty acid (e.g., acetic acid, etc) under heating to carry out esterification and isomerization simultaneously, a catalyst, e.g., cuprous oxide, and a lower saturated fatty acid anhydride (preferably 2W5 times the molar quantity of the raw material) are present in the reaction. The acid anhydride is reacted with water prepared as a by- product so that the reaction is carried out in the absence of water.
EFFECT: In high yield, and the formation of by-products can be minimized.
USE: Spices and an intermediate for synthesizing them.
