Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a waveguide isolator and also to attain miniaturization by providing a microstrip isolator in a waveguide so that a ferrimagnetic substance substrate will be in parallel to an electric field of a microwave and at right angles to a magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:On ferrimagnetic substance substrate 16, internal conductor 18 consisting of junction conductor part 18a and transmission lines 18b-18d is provided. To magnetize a ferrimagnetic substance near junction conductor part 18a, magnet 10 applying a magnetic bias at right angles to ferrimagnetic substance substrate 16 is fitted. Resistor 17 formed on this magnetic substance substrate 16 should have nearly the same resistance value as the characteristic impedance of transmission line 18d. This microstrip isolator 7 should be inserted into waveguide 6 so that ferrimagnetic substance substrate 16 will be in parallel to an electric field and at right angles to a magnetic field. Thus, parts 11 and 12 sectioned by the metal conductor of magnetic substance substrate 16 serve as cut-off waveguides. Namely, those parts attenuate radio waves, so that radio waves will not be transmitted because of attenuation.
