Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled agent that contains a squalene derivative and squalene, or a squalene derivatives as the major component, thus showing excellent carcinostatic effect because of its low toxixity and no side-effects in spite of continuous adminisrta tion and further inhibiting the metastatis of cancers effectively by oral administration.
CONSTITUTION: The carcinostatic agent is composed of vitamin A acid and an ester of squalene-ω-alcohol as the major components or of a mixture of squalene and its derivative with vitamin A or its homolog and its derivative as the effective components. The squalene-ω-alcohol is prepared by oxidizine squalene glycol with periodic acid and conducting the Witting reaction of the product, 22-aldehyde of formula I, with 1-ethoxycarbonylethylidene-triphenylphosphoane, finally reducing the resulting ester with a reducing agent such as lithium aluminum hydride. The ester of this alcohol with a vitamin A derivative is obtained by usual esterification.
