Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the forced lubrication of a crankpin by a system wherein a lubricating oil cylinder with a built-in free piston is fixed to the large end portion of a connecting rod fitted to the crankpin.
CONSTITUTION: A free piston 12 within a lubricating cylinder 10 attached to the under surface of a bearing 6 moves, because of inertia, to the direction of the internal end of the cylinder 10 near the top dead point and to the direction of its external end near the bottom dead point by the movement of a connecting rod 3 accompanied by the revolution of a crank shaft 1 driven by an engine. Therefore, lubricating oil in a crank chamber 9 is sucked from a suction opening 15 during a stroke when the free piston 12 is moving to the external end of the cylinder, while the lubricating oil in the cylinder 10 is compressed during a stroke when the free piston moves to its internal end. The compressed lubricating oil is used for the forced lubrication of the pin 2 of the crank shaft 1, and the surface of the bearing between the large end portion 4 of the connecting rod 3 and the bearing 6.
