Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound, useful as a surfactant, and having a very narrow distribution of polymerization degree, by reacting an alkylene oxide with a compound having an alcoholic hydroxyl group in the presence of a specific solid aluminum phosphate as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An alkylene oxide is reacted with a compound having an alcoholic hydroxyl group, e.g. 1-octanol or cyclododecanol, in the presence of a solid aluminum phosphate having an acid strength of +1.2W+6.8 and an acidity ≥1meq/g, e.g. selected from aluminum orthophosphate, pyrophosphate or metaphosphosphate, in an amount of preferably 0.005W1wt% based on the alcohol.
EFFECT: The catalyst shows no corrosiveness, is readily separable by filtration after the reaction and recoverable and reusable.
USE: Usable for detergents and cosmetics.
