Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the hot strip from being cooled quickly, and to obtain the good product from the innermost first layer of the coil, by coiling the hot strip around the spool whose inner surface being applied with the heat insulating matreial for covering the mandrel's outer surface, after preheating this spool nearly to the temperature of the hot strip to be coiled.
CONSTITUTION: The heat insulating material 13 is applied to the inner surface of the spool 12; this spool 12 is preheated to 500W600°C and is mounted on the mandrel 11, and the hot strip 14 is coiled under the condition that the innermost temperature of the coil is 700W800°C. Hereupon, the temperature of the mandrel 11 is set to about 300W400°C. That is, since the spool 12, being heated nearly to the temperature of the hot strip, is interposed between the strip 14 and the mandrel 11, the strip 14 is prevneted from being cooled quickly. As a result, the yield of the product is improved, and the mechanical deterioration of the mandrel 11 can be prevented because it is not heated to high temperatures.
