Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect inclination of an original, by using the straight line such as a rule which exists generally on the original. CONSTITUTION:Input original 1 is sent to photoelectric converting part 3 by a scanning system 2. This photoelectric converting part 3 is provided with photoelectric conversion elements corresponding to one-line components in the main scanning direction. The run length of black bits in the picture signal is inspected by scanning, and start/end coordinates of run are extracted by linear components detector 4. In straight line extracting part 5, length and start/end coordinates of straight lines are extracted which are detected from start/end coordinates of all linear components obtained in linear components detecting part 4. In line selecting part 6, components which can be used for inclination detection are selected from linear components obtained in linear components detecting part 4. In effective coordinate detecting part 7, linear components obtained in selecting part 6 are compared with the straight line length obtained in extracting part 5 to detect the number of components which are shorter than the straight line length. Inclination of the straight line is calculated in inclination calculating part 8 on a basis of linear components obtained in line selecting part 6 and information of detecting part 7.
