Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a feather suitable for a futon or quilting, by passing a dispersion of the feather through a friction imparting body like a stone mill wherein one of the pair rotates, pulverizing the core part of the feather to separate the soft fiber part, and selecting and collecting the soft fiber.
CONSTITUTION: A dispersion of feather in water is fed from the inlet into a treating apparatus having a grinding and crushing mechanism consisting of a friction imparting body wherein at least one of the pair rotates like a stone mill, and the core part of the feather is selectively pulverized in the region of the friction imparting body, preferably a gap of 0.1W5mm, to separate the soft fiber part, and then expelled from the outlet to select and collect the soft fiber part from the expelled water. Thus, the aimed feather can be obtained. The feather is preferably selected and collected by filtering the expelled water or utilizing the difference in settling speed of the stored expelled water. According to the method, only the fiber part or a mixture of a somewhat hard core part can be freely obtained.
EFFECT: The feather of a land bird produced in a large amount from poultry farming is usable.
