Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:6-Chloro-2-(chloromethyl)pyridine of the formula (n is 1 or 2).
USE: Synthetic intermediate of agricultural chemicals.
PREPARATION: In the presence of an acid selcted from the group consisting of inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid and organic acids such as acetic acid, a metal selected from the group consisting of zinc, tin, cobalt, nickel and aluminum is made to react with 6-chloro-2-(trichloromethyl)pyridine or 6-chloro-2-(dichloromethyl)pyridine, preferably at 20W40°C in liquid phase to give the compound of the formula. The above metal is preferably used in the form of fine powder or dust.
