Abstract

PURPOSE:To selectively and voluntarily specify a carrying out exit in accordance with a kind of articles to be carried out by providing a stocking and delivering conveyor not only for the opposite ends of a passage of a stacker crane but also for one or more arbitrary shelves in a rack row with the shelves being used as stocking and delivery ports. CONSTITUTION:A rack building 3 includes racks 4 disposed in two rows and a stacker crane 9 is disposed to travel along a spacing between the racks 4. Articles 5 in custody are kept on shelves 6 which constitute the rack 4. If a feeder conveyor 8 is provided for a rack 4, the rack functions as a stocking and delivering port 7. The stacker crane 9 is controlled by an on-the-ground controller 12 and an on-the- machine controller 11. However, since articles are carried in and out not only through the front and rear of the rack building as is conventional but also by means of a conveyor provided in the rack, when various kinds of articles are to be carried out, carrying out exits can be selectively and arbitrarily specified for the respective kinds of articles, thus eliminating the necessity of a special assorting conveyor therefor.
