Abstract

PURPOSE: To promote the resistivity against fatigue and the rolling resistance of a tire by constructing a core of strands made of twisted filaments of a fixed diameter and arranged in parallel by a fixed number and reinforcing this core with steel codes.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of filaments of 0.1W0.4mm in diameter are twisted together to form a strand, and two or three of these strands are arranged in parallel to construct a core. Around this core, a plurality of filaments are twisted and banded together to make a steel code with a compressed or oval section, and this steel code is used for the carcass of a radial tire. This compressed or oval shape of the section permits to promote the capacity for bending in the bead part and reduce the diameter of the code in the bending direction without lowering the strength of the code. It also serves to reduce the influence of fretting and promote the resistivity against fatigue and the rolling resistance.
