Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a getter material having enhanced H2 capturing capacity without practically lowering the capacity of capturing active gases other than H2 by dispersing the phase of an intermetallic compound of a matrix forming metal and Sn, Cr, Be or other metal in the matrix.
CONSTITUTION: Ti, Zr, Hf or their alloy are used as matrix 10, and phase 11 of one or more kinds of intermetallic compounds each consisting of one of the matrix forming metals and Sn, Cr, Be, Si, Ge or Cu is dispersed in matrix 10 to obtain a getter material. This getter material is manufactured by heat treating one of the matrix forming metals and one of the additive metals in a vacuum or other atmosphere.
