Abstract

PURPOSE: To form the rough shaped steel billet for use of the good quality shape steel, etc., at high efficiency and high yield, by applying the edging work to the plate slab with the rolling roll provided with the box caliber, and next, by applying the rolling work with the rolling roll provided with the forming caliber.
CONSTITUTION: The plate slab 20 taken out of the soaking pit is subjected to the edging work by the rolling roll provided with the box calibers 22-1, 24-1. This rolling work is repeated by plural times of the pass until the flange width W1n of the dog bone section becomes approximately equal to the caliber width l1. Next, the edging work is appled using the box calibers from 22-2, 24-2, to 22-n, 24-n; hereupon, the edging work is repeated until the maximum flange width W3n of the dog bone becomes equal to the caliber width l3 by the final calibers 22-n, 24-n. This intermediate billet 26 is formed into the desired rough shaped billet by the forming calibers 22-4, 24-4. By the present rolling method, the crop of the billet can be shortened.
