Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an X-ray irradiator suitable for small animals by constructing a structure having a columnar for with a small occupying space area and requiring no administrative section. CONSTITUTION:The boxlike body 1 using a plate material as a frame consists of the controlling portion 11, the irradiation portion 12, and the base portion 13. The X-ray tube 15 with an X-ray controller is arranged inside the controlling portion 11, and an X-ray high-pressure generator, e.g., a high-pressure transformer, a rectifier, etc., is arranged in the base portion 13. Thus, the body 1 is stabilized in spite of its high columnar form. The irradiating chamber 12, built up by fabricating plate materials overlaid with the shielding plate 14a of an X-ray absorber, e.g., lead, into a boxlike shape, is fixed to the body and provided with the hinged door 18 with a path for the open air. The X-ray tube is provided at a position where the opening above the upper wall of the irradiating chamber coincides with the irradiating with the irradiating port. An object to be irradiated is put in a container made of an X- ray permeable material, and then the container is placed in the irradiating chamber for irradiation of X-rays. The setting of the distance between the object to be irradiated and the focus of the X-ray tube and the positioning of the object to be irradiated can be made easily and rapidly.
