Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a battery which enjoys a long storage time reriod and an excellent characteristic of discharging a slight current for a long period of time, by employing an air electrode made of a material in which active carbon, a metallic chelate compound having one or more sulfonic groups and a sulfate coexist. CONSTITUTION:A metallic chelate compound with one or more hydrophilic sulfonic groups such as cobalt.phthalocyanine and a sulfate such as sodium sulfate is dissolved in water. Active carbon granules are thorousghly immersed in the resultant solution and dried under a reduced pressure to evaporate water, thus forming a material in which cobalt.phthalocyanine, sodium sulfate and active carbon coexist. This material is, for example, subjected to a heat treatment, treated with a Teflon emulsion, and then supported by stainless-steel nets at both sides to form an air electrode 3.
