Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain aqueous emulsion superior in sizing performance by adding a specific amount of a compound in specific composition to a rosin derivative and by emulsifying the resultant product.
CONSTITUTION: While rosin or a rosin derivative is at the normal pressure or under pressurized conditions, at least one kind of chemical compounds expressed by I [R is aryl or alkylaryl having 2W8 benzene rings; R' is ethylene or propylene; (n) is 5W40; (l) is 1W2, and M is H or ammonium, etc.] is added to the rosin derivative by 1W30wt% and then required emulsion is obtained by emulsifying the resultant product. Additionally, organic or inorganic alkali is added by 1W50wt% of saponification equivalent. To obtain the compound expressed by I, ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide is addition-polymerized to arylphenol or alkylarylphenol having 2W8 benzene rings and after sulfating using a sulfating agent such as sulfuric anhydride, neutralization is carried out with a base such as sodium hydroxide.
