Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled composition contg. SiO2, B2O3, ZnO, BaO, Na2O, K2O, Al2O3, etc. in a specified wt. ratio and useful mainly for a video head using SiO2 as a nonmagentic body layer.
CONSTITUTION: Glass having a composition consisting of, by wt., 9W21% SiO2, 22.5W30.5% B2O3, 27W34% ZnO, 8.5W18% BaO, 8.5W12.5% Na2O+K2O and ≤4.5% Al2O3 is used as ferrite binding glass for a magnetic head having a glass reinforced part on the tape sliding surface and using SiO2 as a nonmagnetic body layer. This glass has a thermal expansion coefficient suitable for bindig Mn-Zn ferrite, high wear resistance, sufficient mechanical workability and high hardness. Since this glass can well be freed of bubbles at ≤770°C, glass-ferite interdispersion occurs hardly. In addition, this glass is slightly reactive with SiO2, so it gives high accuracy gap width when used for a head using SiO2 as a nonmagnetic body layer.
