Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the catalyst with high activity and strength for preparing the alkylene glycol ethers by a method wherein a metal cpd. such as a ferrous cpd. or the like is firstly supported on a porous inorg. support and, after baking the metal cpd. such as nickel is supported subsequently, thereafter reduced. CONSTITUTION:On the porous inorg. support such as porous silica or alumina, the cpd. of the ferrous group metal and an alkaline earth metal is supported in an amount of 0.5-25wt% as an elemental metal and, thereafter, this support is baked at 600-1,100 deg.C. Subsequently, 0.5-15wt% of nickel, 0-2wt% of copper and 0-2wt% of chromium are supported in such a range that a total amount of the cpd. is 0.5-15wt% and, thereafter, this cpd. is reduced at 250-450 deg.C to a metal element to prepare the catalyst for preparing alkylene glycol ethers. This catalyst is stable and having the excellent activity as well as selectivity and controls the formation of impurities.
