Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a void-free urethane foam having excellent dimentional stability, by expanding a mixture of an organic polyisocyanate and a polyol in the presence of a specified polymer.
CONSTITUTION: An oil-soluble or polyol-soluble polymer, number-average MW 300W20,000, polymerization degree 2W160, is obtained by reacting a 4W30C natural or synthetic (un)-saturated aliphatic alcohol with a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer such as methyl methacrylate or styrene in the presence of a polymerization catalyst. Then, to a mixture of an organic polyisocyanate and a polyol are added 0.01W10wt%, based on the polyol, of said polymer, a blowing agent and, if necessary, a catalyst and a surfactant, and the resulting mixture is allowed to expand.
EFFECT: There can be obtained a foam having a uniform cellular structure and good mold flow and being free from voids.
USE: Armrest, shock-absorbing foam, sound-absorbing foam
