Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled germicide having improved germicidal effect even on a wide variety of bacteria and molds which are parasitic on agricultural and horticultural crops and do damage thereto, without toxicity to crops, and comprising a substituted anilinomethylenemalononitrile as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: An agricultural and horticultural germicide comprising a substituted anilinomethylenemalononitrile compound expressed by formula I (X1, X2, X3 and X4 are chlorines or bromines, and at least two or more of them are chlorines), e.g. 2,4,5-trichloroamilinomethylenemalononitrile or 3,5-dichloroanilinomethylenemalononitrile, as an active constituent. The germicide has improved control effects, particularly on blights of crops caused by algal fungi, e.g. clubroot of a cruciferous vegetable, late blight of a solanaceous vegetable and downy mildew of a cucumber, and remarkable control effects on helminthosporium leaf spot of a rice plant. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a chlorine-substituted aniline of formula II with an alkoxymethylenemalononitrile.
