Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the automation and stabilization of titled build-up work, by freely rotatively erecting a titled shaft, relatively moving a vertically movable high- frequency induction electrode and performing padding while controlling the molten pool temperature on the blade surface of said shaft.
CONSTITUTION: In performing build-up welding of a screw shaft 1, both ends of said shaft 1 are supported vertically freely rotatively by means of thrust bearings 2 or the like; the metal powder for padding is added with a binder and is coated 5 on the blade 3 in the predetermined range; the coated layer 5 and the blade 3 are sandwiched by leaving a clearance, by the electrode 4 of a high-frequency welding machine; the electrode 4 is moved upward by the revolution of the shaft 6 while the shaft 1 is being revolved, whereby a molten pool 7 is produced and build-up welding is accomplished successively. At this time, the temperature of the molten pool 7 is measured with a radiation pyrometer 8 and is controlled to a predetermined temperature. In this way, the automation of the titled welding is made possible and the occurrence of cracking by conventional methods is eliminated.
