Abstract
PURPOSE: To suppress hardening of the toe of weld of beads and prevent the occurrence of corrosion cracking in weld zone by specifying the carbon equivalent of base metals, preheating temperature and welding heat input at the time of laminating the final pass with the site joint of a spherical storage tank.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of laminating the final pass under the conditions in which welding heat input is ≤24Kj/cm with the site joints of a spherical storage tank, the upper limit of the carbon equivalent of base metals is kept at 0.40%. The threshold cooling time (11sec) when the maximum hardness of the base metals becomes ≤300Hv at the upper limit of this carbon equivalent is obtained, and in order to assure the cooling time 11sec at the minimum heat input quantity (for example, 12Kj/cm), the continuous preheating of 150°C is performed at the preceding bead application of the final pass. While the interpass temperature is being secured at ≥200°C by using the heating by this preceding bead heat input, the final beads are applied. Thereby, the cooling time of the weld bond zone of 800W500°C may be sured for ≥11sec and the joint hardness may be kept at ≤300Hv.
