Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the use amount of atmosphere gas by accumulating part of the atmosphere gas produced within a tank and using this for maintaining the oxygen-free atmosphere until the start of the next operation in the batch-type heat- treating furnace using atmosphere gas. CONSTITUTION:At the time of heating the materials to be treated in the heat- treating furnace 1 consisting of a heating chamber 2 and a cooling chamber 3, part of the atmosphere gas supplied from an atmosphere gas producer 10 is boosted by a compressor 13 and is accumulated in a tank 15. The remainder is supplied into the heating furnace 2 through a throttle valve 11 and flowmeter 12. When the heat treatment operation is finished and the material to be treated of the last row is conveyed into the cooling chamber 3, the operation of the gas producer 10 is stopped. Thereafter, the gas having been accumulated in the tank 15 is supplied into the furnace through a reducing valve 16, throttle valve 17, flowmeter 18 and pressure regulator 19, to maintain the inside of the furnace in an oxygen-free atmosphere until the start of the operation of the next day. Hence, the need for purging the gas in the furnace prior to starting of the operation is eliminated, and this decreases the use amount of the atmosphere gas and reduces the size of the gas producer.
