Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an oil-impregnated bearing material excellent in resistance against abrasion and stability of dimension by employing expansive graphite for a lubricating oil bearer, having a lubrication characteristic as slider.
CONSTITUTION: Expansive graphite is expanded in the direction of C axis through a heat treatment at 300W1,000°C to form a porous graphite having capability to adsorb lubricating oil. A lubricating oil is impregnated uniformly in this graphite with such a preparation that the volume ratio of graphite to lubricating oil is 1/1W 5/1. 1W30vol% atomized kelmet powder or bronze dust is added to this mixture of 0.5W20vol% graphite and 1W20vol% lubricating oil, the rest being shared by plastics such as polyacetal, and they are mixed and kneaded uniformly and formed into a certain configuration. Further use of expansive graphite, which has a coefficient of linear expansion and a thermal conductivity nearly equal to those of metals, and addition of metal dust will suppress the temperature rise of bearings as well as give them capacity for use in heavy load and high speed condition.
