Abstract

PURPOSE: To force a cross tie rod to cool, suppress the expansion resulting from superheat, and maintain the pressure of the rod for clamping a coke oven stable and constant, by passing a cooling gas, e.g. air, through a protecting pipe of the cross tie rod under pressure.
CONSTITUTION: An attaching hole is provided on a pipe 3 for protecting a cross tie rod 5 to fix a supply pipe 1 for supplying a cooling gas thereto. A cooling gas, e.g. air, is supplied from a piping 4 and the pipe 1 to the protecting pipe 3, and the cross tie rod 5 in the pipe 3 is forced to cool. The air supplied is expelled from both ends 6 of the protecting pipe 3 and then the gap between an oven top brick 2 and a backstay 7.
EFFECT: Heat radiation by removal of brick is unnecessary if the cross tie rod is heated at an abnormal high temperature.
