Abstract
PURPOSE: An mildew that belongs to Aspergillus and can produce the substance AFS is cultured to produce the substance AFS showing remarkable antitumorigenic activity.
CONSTITUTION: An Aspergillus mildew that can produce the substance AFS is cultured under aerobic conditions at 10W45°C for 2W12 days to accumulate the substance AFS in the culture medium. The culture mixture is treated with a combination of filtration, fractional precipitation with an organic solvent, dialysis, solvent extraction, chromatography and so on to isolate the substance AFS. The chemical properties of the substance AFS are as follows: elementary analysis: C: 49.09%, H: 7.165%, O: 27.24%, N: 13.90%, molecular weight: about 4,000 (measured by the vapor-equilibrium mehtod at 60°C); ultraviolet absorption spectrum: the maximum at 280mμ; infrared absorption spectrum: the flgure; solubility in solvents: easily soluble in water, insoluble in ether, chloroform and other solvents; color reaction; ninhydrin test is positive and napthoresorcine test is negative; pH is 6.30 (in 506.4mμ/l aqueous solution).
