Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the life of a battery through the prevention of internal shortcircuit and leakage by using a separator with specifically constituted combined structure for a wrapped electrode having a zinc negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:A separator 7 with a combined structure is used for a wrapped electrode of a zinc negative electrode 6 and positive electrode 5. A center layer 1 of the separator 7 comprises a fibrous fluororesin layer entangled to form three dimensional network containing 80-40% by weight of one or more oxides selected from TiO2, ZrO2, and HfO2 which are fine powder passed through a screen of 200 mesh, and the thickness of the layer 1 increases continuously from the wrapping center to the end. Alkali-proof nonwoven fabrics 2, 3 are provided on both sides of the layer 1 to form a triple layer construction. Thus the life is improved through the prevention of internal shortcircuit and leakage due to dendrite.
