Abstract

PURPOSE: Starch, water-soluble monomers and a polymerization catalyst are mixed in a polymerizer provided with a mixing head driven by liquid jet and they are polymerized to produce the titled water-insoluble resin used in sanitary goods with no trouble in restarting by a small driving force.
CONSTITUTION: In the polymerizer composed of a mixing head 1 that effects mixing by fluid jet force with no driving mechanism and of resident tank 2, (A) starch and/or cellulose, (B) water-soluble monomers or monomers that become water- soluble by hydrolysis, (C) a polymerization catalyst, when necessary, (D) a crosslinking agent are mixed and the polymerization is effected wherein each of components A through D is stored in tanks 4 through 7 and sent by pumps 8 through 11 to a plurality of inlets 13 on the mixing head 1 and jetted from the nozzle 15 through mixing chamber 16 into polymerizer 2. After polymerization, valve 17 is opened and the polymer is taken out of outlet 12.
