Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formulas I and II [R1 and R2 are Hs, 1W8C alkyls, aralkyls, etc.; R3 and R4 are Hs or 1W3C alkyls; n is an integer 1W5 (the number of moles of added alkylene oxide)].
EXAMPLE: A monoethylene glycol ether of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyl ester.
USE: A dew-condensation inhibitor for vinyl chloride films, usable as a modifier for plastics, e.g. an agent for imparting hygroscopicity and an antistatic agent, an antifoaming agent, a polymer emulsifier, a dispersant, a plasticizer, an adhesive, or a lubricant.
PROCESS: A monoester of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol (A) expressed by formula III or IV, is reacted with an alkylene oxide in an amount of one mole or more based on one mole of (A), and distilled, to give a compound of formulas I and II. The compound of formula III may be mixed with the compound of formula IV.
