Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled agent, useful as an efficient heat source, with little load on a patient and a slight excretion in urine, and comprising maltose and a small amount of fructose.
CONSTITUTION: A glucide transfusion agent comprising (A) maltose which is a disaccharide and (B) a small amount of fructose which is a type of hexasaccharide, at a weight ratio between (A) and (B) of preferably 7:3W9:1 to keep the transfusion agent as high in carlorific value as possible and reduce the excretion of the glucide in urine. The concentration is preferably selected to make the osmotic pressure of the agent isotonic, i.e. about 7.7%(W/V) for the ratio between (A) and (B) of 7:3, 8.3%(W/V) for the ratio of 8:2, and about 9.1%(W/V) for the ratio of 9:1. The rate of administration is preferably controlled in the range of 5W15ml/ kg/hr.
