Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain title copolymer having good heat stability and weatherability and giving a molded product of good quality, by the random copolymerization of C2H4 with a branched 1,4-diene, in such a manner that the resulting copolymer has a specified range of diene content and a specified range of melt index.
CONSTITUTION: A random copolymer is prepared by the copolymerization of ethylene with a branched 1,4-diene of the formula (wherein R1 is 1W8C alkyl; R2 and R3 are H or 1W8C alkyl, where R2 and R3 are not H at the same time) by use of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst. Said copolymerization is conducted in such a way that said copolymer contains 0.01W20mol% of said branched 1,4-diene and has melt index ≤500g/10min. The introduction of a functional group into the obtained thermoplastic ethylenic unsaturated copolymer is easy and gives a molded product with good transparency, printability, adhesion and coating properties.
