Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate oil and water using a simple deemulsification operation without using chemicals or other materials by passing a waste water contg. emmulsified oil through a layer of waste lubricating oil layer so that both contact with each other.
CONSTITUTION: The waste water contg. emulsified oil such as water-soluble cutting- oil is introduced (N-1) into an inner cylinder well 2 and is added in shower form to the top of a layer 4 of contact oil consisting of waste lubricating oil such as waste oil with drawn from an automobile engine. The contg. waste water emulsified oil is settled and fall down through the layer 4 by gravity. The layer 4 is provided with several steps of metal nets to enhance the contacting effect. Mutual contact of the contg. the waste water emulsified oil with the waste lubricating oil causes the phase inversion of emulsion, causing absorption and inclusion by the effect of dilution, dissolution, neutralization, affinity, etc. and results in completed coagulation. Thus, oil, water, and sludge are separated from each other, which are taken out respectively by their specific gravity. The oil component is purified and floated and is returned (N-3) as regenerated raw oil; water is discharged (N-2) for the following water treatment, and the sludge is settled on the bottom and then discharged (N-4).
