Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a titled separating device having a large permeating rate and being operable at low pressure by a method wherein two opposing walls parallel to the stream line outside of parallel-arranged hollow fibers are integratedly composed of synthetic resins which fix the ends of many hollow fibers arranged perpendicularly to the stream line.
CONSTITUTION: A hollow fiber 1 is wound around wires 2 at proper pitch to form something like a spool. A number of such spools are arranged in parallel to each other, and both ends of the hollow fiber fluxes are immersed into epoxy resin, etc. side by side, and the resin is then cured. Next, the outside of a tube plate 3 including the wires is scraped off, so that the hollow fibers are opened to both sides. The openings are pinched with a metal or resin plates 5, 6 and are fixed with bolts 7, then housed in a shell 8, etc. Using this construction, raw water is passed through pipe 3, and permeated water is collected from the pipe plates 3 at both sides into passage 4, 4'. This device allows the ratio of the effective length of the hollow fiber tube to its outside diamter to become less than 500. Thus, the method provides a structure having a plant-scale membrane area with a small device area in a simple manufacturing process.
