Abstract

PURPOSE: To machine with high accuracy both sides of a work which is shaped like a lens as in a 'go-stone' in a large quantity, by clutching the work with an opening- and-closing chuck or a suction chuck on the same rotational axis line as the work, and grinding it with a grinding plate provided on a spindle whcih intersects perpendicularly the axis of the chuck.
CONSTITUTION: A work side-face opening chuck 10 is provided on one side and a suction chuck 11 on the other side of sliding machine bases 8 and 9. Work loading and unloading devices 2 and 3 are constructed by sliding both chucks 10 and 11 along the common rotational axis line (a) and providing them freely rotatably on the sliding bases 8 and 9. On a spindle 4 which can slide freely along the horizontal axis line (b) that intersects the central axis line (a) at right a angle a grinding plate 5 and an abrasing plate 6 are provided with a certain distance between them. A cylindrical raw material 27 is inserted into the chuck 10 and a sliding cylinder 14 is slid to the left side to close the chuck 10, and the side face of the raw material 27 is supported by a chuck 10.
