Abstract

PURPOSE:To make stable tracking possible even when the movement of an object or the visual-field change of a television camera is fast, by extracting a luminance signal by use of lattice-shaped sampling regions provided at equal intervals in the horizontal and vertical directions of a screen. CONSTITUTION:From i-th screen (a) and (i+1)-th screen a', luminance signals (b) and b' are extracted in a lattice shape respectively and compressed into a linear multilevel signal to obtain luminance distributions (c) and c'. Next, threshold levels shown by the alternate long and short dash lines are provided to convert them into binary-coded signals and a luminance signal within correlation window 3 is used as a reference signal to perform correlative arithmetic, obtaining correlation coefficient (e). As a result, correlation window 3 is moved with coordinate (b) overlapping with coordinate b' and the luminance signal within the correlative window is updated as the reference signal for the correlative arithmetic of the (i+2)-th screen.
