Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the simplification of the device by moving two optical scanning means respectively scanning both sides of the original in such a manner as to selectively connect an optical image reading means to either one scanning light emitting optical path of said optical scanning means.
CONSTITUTION: This makes common use of an optical system consisting of reflecting mirrors 6, 7, 8 a lens 9 and an optical reading element 10 for the two optical scanning paths respectively scanning both sides of the original 1 in the state that both sides thereof are held sandwiched by transparent plates 2, 2a and set on an original platen, wherein the reflecting mirror 6 is moved by the distance H between the respective 1st and 2nd image optical axes (x) and (xa) of the original 1 and the moving mirrors 7, 8 are moved by 1/2 the moving distance H of the mirror 6 in the same direction, whereby both-side scanning is performed selectively. With such constitution, it turns out that the respective optical path lengths from the 1st and 2nd sides of the original 1 up to the optical reading element 10 are maintained constant.
