PURPOSE:To easily discriminate parts solns. by definite coloring and allow superior performance in halftone dot quality to be shown by adding a nitroindazole compound to one of the solns. CONSTITUTION:A nitroindazole compound represented by the formula (where R is H or 1,2 or 3 C alkyl and X is H or an alkali metal atom or an alkaline earth metal atom) is added to one of parts solns. of a lith developer for photography in the field of graphic arts, and the compound-added soln. is adjusted to 12-15pH. In case of <=12pH the compound colors insufficiently, and when the pH exceeds 15, a problem about shelf stability occurs. Thus, the soln. is colored orange-reddish orange or orange-yellow to enable sharp distinction between the soln. and the other uncolored soln., and the operation of identifying each soln. is made unnecesary. In addition, an image having high density, high contrast and high halftone dot quality is obtd.
