Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to catch accurately the width of welding groove by controlling the direction of a welding arc detector so as to detect a welding arc always from the advancing direction of welding by means of attaching the detector around the center axis of a welding torch freely in rotation.
CONSTITUTION: This welding robot comprises X and Y axses controlled according to NC data and y axis for compensating an error amount detected by a welding arc detector 13, the direction of which has be positioned at any arbitrary angle around the center axis of a welding torch on the X-Y plane by controlling a motor 16. The control circuit for this positioning shaft T determines the control amount of T shaft on the basis of travel command on X and Y axes depending on NC data generated by a central control circuit, and controls the motor 16 to rotate T shaft by an angle of θ, thereby the detector 13 fixed to an arm 15' is turned by the same angle of θ.
