Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the density of an inflammable volatile component, such as ethanol, in a liquid rapidly and accurately by sampling the component in carrier gas via a gas permeable film, by burning it and then by detecting its combustion heat.
CONSTITUTION: A solution containing inflammable volatile component (A) such as ethanol is poured into breaker 3 arranged in thermostatic chamber 1 and then stirred to maintain a constant temperature. In the above-mentioned solution 4 in beaker 3, tubular gas permeable film 4 made of a continuous film of excellent gas permeability or porous film is dipped and to both its terminals, carrier gas supply and transport tubes 5 and 6 are connected. In the above-mentioned constitution, the carrier gas is supplied to tube film 4 via gas flow meter 15 and mixed with component (A) transmitted through film 4 and the mixture is led into contact combustion detecting element part 10 via tube 6 being heated by heater 7. In element part 10, component (A) burns by a catalytic action and its combustion head is detected by detecting element. The density of component (A) is measured as a change in electric resistance value of the detecting element proportional to it.
