Abstract
PURPOSE: To convert the vertical movement of a wave into a horizontal movement by connecting a plurality of boards at intervals so that the whole body obtain rigidity, and floating it on the sea.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of boards 1 are arranged on a plane at intervals, and connected together by means of connecting bars 2 so that the whole body obtains rigidity. The board type wave dissipating jetty thus obtained is floated on the sea by means of floats 3. When the board type wave dissipating jetty receives a wave, the vertical movement of the wave exerts its force to push up the jetty. However, a portion of the wave force is held down by the weight of the jetty, and consequently a portion of the vertical movement is converted into a horizontal movement. The wave spouting out between the boards 1 spreads over the boards changing its movement direction to horizontal. However, when each board or the whole of them is so bent that its figure becomes similar to that of the wave, said effect cam not be obtained.
