Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:N, N, N', N'-Tetraglycidyl(3-aminomethyl-3, 5, 5-trimethylcyclohexylamine) of formula I.
USE: A starting material for producing cured products: this compound contains chemical structures acting as curing agents in the molecule and has high storage stability. The cured products has high strength and heat resistance because of their high heat distortion temperature, thus being used for electric appliances, structural materials and formed materials as well as matrix resin for reinforcing fiber such as carbon or glass fiber.
PREPARATION: The addition reaction of isophorondiamine of formula II to epichlorohydrin of formula III is conducted in the presence of water and/or a quarternary ammonium salt at a temperature lower than 60°C and the product is subjected to ring closure in the presence of an alkali at a temperature lower than 60°C. After the reaction, the precipitate and unreacted epichlorohydrin are removed to give the compound of formula I.
