Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a phenol resin having a high curing rate, excellent injection moldability and mold fillability, by adding Ca(OH)2 to a phenol resin during a period from the end of polycondensation step to the end of boiling down step.
CONSTITUTION: A novolak phenol resin is prepared by condensing a mixture of fomaldehyde and a phenol in a mol ratio of 0.1/1W1.0/1, in the presence of an acid catalyst such as hydrochloric acid or oxalic acid; after completing the polycondensation, adding to the reaction mixture, 2W10pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. of resin, of Ca(OH)2; mixing uniformly the resulting mixture and removing water, by heating, from the mixture to concentrate the condensate.
