Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a hot-melt adhesive which exhibits a rapid curing rate and excels in heat resistance after curing, by a method wherein a self-curing unsaturated polyester having an air-drying functional gp. selected from a cyclic ether gp., an active methylene-contg. gp. and an active methine-contg. gp. is used as a base material.

CONSTITUTION: There is obtd. titled adhesive by blending optionally a thermoplastic polymer (ii) (e.g. a satd. polyester) and at least one additive (iii) selected from a polymn. initiator (e.g. a peroxide), a polymn. promotor (e.g. a metallic soap) and a photosensitizer (e.g. an azo cpd.) with a self-curing unsaturated polyester (i) having an average degree of polymn. of not less than 8 and an air-drying functional gp. (e.g. tetrahydrofuranyl gp., glycidyl ether gp.) selected from a cyclic ether gp., an active methylene-contg. gp. and an active methine-contg. gp. in an amount of not less than 0.001 equivalents per 100g of the (i) component. Pref. the (iii) component is melt-mixed with the (i) and (ii) components just before the adhesive is coated on an adherend. Alternatively, the (iii) component is melt-mixed with the (i) and (ii) component on an adherend surface after the adhesive is coated on the adherend.
