Abstract

PURPOSE:To considerably prolong the life of an upper nozzle by tightly fitting a refractory sleeve to the inner side of the upper nozzle according to its wear. CONSTITUTION:The permissible rate of reduction in thickness owing to the wear of an upper nozzle is beforehand set. When the wear reaches the permissible range, the inner size of the nozzle is bored to a uniform inside diameter. A refractory sleeve is tightly fitted into the inner side thereof to regenerate the nozzle. If, for example, the upper nozzle 4 of a sliding nozzle wears, the attachments on the surrounding are removed and in the state that only the upper nozzle is held mounted to a pan 1, the pan 1 is tilted and the inner size 4a of the upper nozzle 4 is machined to a predetermined inside diameter by a boring machine 12. A refracotry sleeve 11 manufactured to approximately the same outside diameter as the inside diameter of the thus finished upper nozzle 4 is tightly fitted onto the upper nozzle 4. The refractory sleeve 11 is made of the same material as that of the upper nozzle 4. It is also possible to achieve firmer fitting by coating and filling mortar 13 or the like on the outside and top surface of the refractory sleeve 11.
