Abstract

PURPOSE:To stably disperse an oil soluble photographic additive in a hydrophilic colloidal composition or water without exerting unfavorable influence on the photographic properties by using a specified surfactant. CONSTITUTION:An oil soluble photographic additive is dispersed in hydrophilic colloid or water using a surfactant represented by general formula I (where each of R1 and R2 is alkyl or aryl and M is a cation), e.g. the surfactant of formula II or III. The amount of the surfactant is about 0.1-40, preferably 1-10wt% to the amount of the additive. The surfactant can be synthesized easily, e.g. by adding sodium hydrogensulfite to itaconic acid ester.
