Abstract

PURPOSE:A dentifrice composition, capable of exhibiting a powerful removing effect on tobacco tar even in the presence of multivalent cations with high safety, and comprising phytic acid or a derivative thereof and an organic acid or a salt thereof. CONSTITUTION:A dentifrice composition comprising (A) phytic acid (myo-inositol hexaphosphate) or a derivative thereof and (B) an organic acid, e.g. citric or tartric acid, or a salt thereof. The amounts of (A) and (B) are 0.1-50wt% calculated as the phytic acid and 0.1-20wt%, respectively. Although effective in removing tobbcco tar attached to a tooth or artificial denture, the acid (A) loses the effect greatly in the presence of multivalent cations, e.g. Ca or Mg, incorporated therein as a polishing agent. The organic acid (B) eliminates the disadvantage described above.
