Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the size and weight of a device, by measuring a single contact light beam in terms of the ratio of remote reflection to nearby reflection.
CONSTITUTION: The output of an oscillator 1 is applied to an LED2 so that the LED emits infrared rays within a solid angle with prescribed directivity. A detector 3 has a beamlike light reception field Z1 to receive light reflected within a short distance. Another detector 5 has a beamlike light reception field Z2 to receive light reflected within a long distance. These detectors 3, 5 are so placed that they receive the light reflected within the short and the long distances, respectively. Light reflected within a medium distance is received by both the detectors in proportion to the distances between the reflection point and the positions of the detectors. The detectors generate outputs corresponding to the quantities of light received by them. The outputs are amplified by amplifiers 4, 6. The amplified output signals are detected. The detected outputs are applied to a differential amplifier so that the ratio of both the outputs is determined, for example. The position of a reflection surface can be found out from the ratio. An output corresponding to the ratio is indicated by increase or decrease in the intensity of a sound or by the lighting-on-and-off of a lamp.
