Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect an automobile against burglary and from being driven by an unlicensed person by a method wherein an engine starting circuit is switched in after specified paper such as driver's license card has passed a check by a machine.
CONSTITUTION: A switch 55 is connected in series between an ignition system 3 and an ignition switch 1, and connected with a control circuit 5. A license card or the like on which is recorded an optical information readable by a machine is put in through an insert hole of the control circuit 5, the information is read by a reading circuit 52 and a checking circuit 53 checks the read information with the information preset on an information setting circuit 54. If the both information accord with each other, the switch 55 is closed and the engine 4 can be started by an engine key. Accordingly, the automobile can be protected against burglary and from being driven by an unlicensed person, the protection being extremely effective as compared with the case where the engine can be started by the engine key alone.
