Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled molded article the surface layer portion thereof consists of a highly elastic skinned foam of high foaming rate, by a method wherein a foamable compound comprising an ethylene (co)polymer, a foaming agent and a cross-linking agent having a lower decomposition temperature than the foaming agent is heated and molded under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:To an ethylene (co)polymer, a foaming agent and a cross-linking agent having a lower decomposition temperature than the foaming agent are mixed and kneaded to prepare a compound, which is heated in a mold for a predetermined time period to effect the cross-linking reaction while suppressing the decomposition of the foaming agent. The cross-linked compound is taken out as an intermediate product with the decomposition rate of the foaming agent less than 50%, preferably less than 15%. The intermediate product is heated at or around atmospheric pressure through a mold so as to foam the surface layer portion at high foaming ratio, and a molded product is taken out with the core layer portion in an unfoamed or extremely faintly foamed condition with the foaming ratio of not more than 2. USE:Substitute balls for use in regulation baseball and softball, surfboard, bottom or core material or inside pad for footwear, floats for fishery, safety pillow for automobiles, etc.
