Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a constituent of a resin binder useful to manufacture a magnetic recording medium which has low frictional resistance and is never damaged by a head while containing self-cross-linkable thermosetting acrylic resin, carbon powder and butyral resin. CONSTITUTION:Present invention relates to a constituent which is capable of dispersing magnetic material powder while containing (A) 35-95pts.wt. self-cross- linkable thermosetting acrylic resin having N-methylolamide groups or N-alkoxymethylamide groups as a reactive functional group, (B) 1-40wt% carbon powder basing on the amount of magnetic material powder, and (C) 1-30% butyral resin basing on acrylic resin. The said carbon powder is effective especially in improving contact-start/stop resistance and wear resistance with regard to the strength of a coating film, and the butyral resin is also effective in improving resistance to a solvent, such as methyl ethyl ketone, flexibility, and impregnation with a lubricant.
